19-04-08: Grand Final Finale
A perfect day for racing. Although it was a little bit cold for us humans,
the XA was loving the low density. Clean cold air means good times. So the team
was all psyched up for a brilliant grand final.
First qualifying pass, straight off the trailer and Brad did a 10.89sec over the
quarter mile. Hmmm, we started looking over our shoulders, and sure enough,
there was the ANDRA official, clipboard in hand. Congratulations on the good
pass boyz, but you've just been very naughty. Don't come back next season
without all the relevant safety gear.
Oh dear. So now we'll have to take some time off so we can work out what to do.
Put a roll cage in? Go up to the next level? You'll have to come back for
updates. We can't tell you what's happening yet, because we really aren't sure
ourselves. All we know, is we'll be back racing soon. 01-03-08: A Quiet Western Nationals
Sometimes, even with the best intentions,
we're stuck saying at the end of the day... "well, that's racing". But even though it was
a fairly uneventful weekend, you may want to check out some of the photos. There's some pretty good launching happening.
See you all next meet.
12-1-08: Round 3 of Eliminations Again
Bevan was driving this weekend, and despite the
forecast heat, he was aiming to do at least as well
as Brad did last meet. With Paul from Eden Systems
on track supporting us on Friday and a couple of new
crew on Saturday, all went very well ... Catch you all at Western Nationals.
12-1-08: Round 3 of Eliminations
Today was all about consistency. Consistent weather, consistent times, consistent driving.
It all just came together on the day allowing Fatboyz to make it through to Round 3 of eliminations.
And in Round 3 we were beaten fair and square. Just needed a few more meters of track.
So the pressure will be on Bevan next meet, as he will be taking over the driving ...
31-12-07: SLOWING IT DOWN
Today's meet was all about slowing down a little, and
getting it right. After some changes to the car, we all
got down the track ready to see if our calculations were
right, and the car was going to do what we wanted. But
what we didn't factor in was the heat of the day. It was
HOT. It might not have felt that hot to everyone sitting
at home, but the track temperature reached 53°C,
and all our other temperature readings were showing it
just wasn't a good day for racing. The track just wasn't
producing good times for anyone that day. But we plodded
along, and got good times (comparatively). We've also
got some good data for next meet. Back in 2 weeks for
some good racing.
01-12-07: FATBOYZ NOW HAVE A 10sec CAR
Brad was back in the driver's seat for the 30 Nov/1 Dec meet, and for once we were organised and relaxed.
The car had been fixed and triple checked, and the team was under instruction not to have any
expectations, just to enjoy the weekend. Well what a weekend. ...
Brad pulled a 10.92 @ 123.79mph (199.22kph) out of the hat straight off the trailer on Friday 30 November.
It was a big surprise to all that a 3683lb car can actually go that fast.
And the next pass was 10.95 @ 121.45mph (195kph) with Brad slowing down at the end of the track.
After calming down, the boys all started scratching their heads to work out how to slow the beast down.
So they de-tuned her a little, and Brad decided to drop off the power at the end of track to play it safe.
Even though the next pass returned an 11.06, looking at the 60ft time, we realised there was still going to be the problem of going too fast for the category.
So they decided to try another pass without the NOS, just to see what would happen. It was 11.6sec. Just not fast enough for us.
So with the NOS back on, it was elimination time.
Ouch..... we must have used more gas than we realised in the first passes. We got beaten on an 11.24.
Well, back to the drawing board with a new set of problems. How to slow her down, just a little bit.
17-11-07: What happened this time?
Due to work commitments, Fatboyz were only able to attend the Saturday 17/11 meet, but as the car is showing some consistency, this shouldn't have been an issue.
How wrong could we be. Just a little gasket foiled us. After our Bevan did his first pass, one of the
skinny girls noticed water pouring out of the engine bay. It's just our luck.
Back on the hoist on Sunday to discover that it wasn't just a simple water pump gasket, so it couldn't have
been fixed on-site, although to our delight there was no water in the oil or water pump damage.
So we'll all be back for the doorslammer meet. Let's try this again ...
03-10-07: Oops, We've done it again
November 3rd started out tough ... times were low. But with a few checks over the car, the boys realised the NOS wasn't kicking in.
Our last qualifier was 11.07, 1st elimination a PB of 11.03. But 2nd elimination spelt disaster,
sparks down the track meant a broken tail shaft. How could this be happening again?
The team headed back to the shed with their heads hung low, and with much effort, the car was pushed back on the hoist.
Well, at least it didn't look as bad as last time. There's a few repairs to make, and a couple of modifications to make
sure the car can handle the new powerful launches we've started doing. It's going to be a pretty busy week for the entire team.
05-07: New Sponsors
You may notice that we have a
couple of new sponsors ready for the new season. Wongan Hills Hotel has just
been taken over by our very own Fatboy Brad and Guru Kim with their respective
partners. Congratulations guys and gals, I'm sure you'll be seeing a lot of drag
racing fans in the Fatboyz Bar very soon.
Also, AndyK Design is the company of our very own SkinnyGirl Photographer. If
you need any graphic design work done (logos, website, promotional stuff) for
your team or business, give her a call and
mention the Fatboyz. She's sure to do you a good deal.
05-07: Western Nationals Catastrophe
After the catastrophe at the
Western Nationals, here's a little report on what required replacing after
throwing a tail shaft.
- 1 gearbox
- 1 race converter
- 1 flywheel
- 1 starter motor
- 1 tail shaft with big unis & no grease holes
- 1 tail shaft loop
- 1 pair of fresh undies for the driver
- lots of cash
02-03-07: Happy
Birthday Eden Fabrication
The things we do for our
sponsors... have a look at the photos,
and you'll see how tough it was for us.
[ view] Everyone actually
had a ball. We apologise to Rick for
all the hard work he had to do the
following day with the pressure cleaner
though.
03-03-07: Oops... Bad day
from the get go...
OK. so the car had rubber all over
it and needed a transmission fluid
change due to the fun of the previous
night, so we were
running late for the race meet. Brad
then broke the neighbours fence puting
the car onto the hoist in the shed. Then
he stubbed
his toe.
Then first qualifier... the transmission
is gone, the drive shaft is a twisted
wreck, transmission fluid all over the
track... oh what a
mess.
Brad.... please remember to wear the
lucky jocks next time.
Thanks to everyone who gave their
condolences over the weekend. We'll be
back out as soon as we can.
17-02-07: Bevan Drives Nostalgia
The day started out with rain, rain
and still more rain. We thought we
wouldn't be racing. But just in time for
racing to start, the
track dried off, we dried off, and
racing began. Bevan had a great time,
and did pretty well. Especially since he
hasn't raced the
car since last nostalgia day.
We also had a visit from our new
sponsors from Eden Fabrication, and the
guys seemed to have a good day.
13-01-07: New Personal Best
Wow, What a meet. Luckily It didn't
end up being as hot as predicted, but
the day was still pretty warm. We
started the day out
with a brilliant pass, but the timers
weren't working. So we were given
another qualifying pass (thanks Ray!).
We qualified
against Tango 1, and as they say.... we
beat the heat. It was a new personal
best at 11.124sec.
But it turns out Brad thought he could
do better, so followed that up later in
the day with a new personal best of
11.08. Well done
mate. We were all gobsmacked that the
car could do it.
Unfortunately we didn't make it past the
first round of eliminations, and had to
shoot off early due to personal
commitments (just
in case you were looking to congratulate
us in person). But we'll all be back so
see if it can be done again. See you
down the
track.
